Termite tent

You might be wondering just what type of termite treatment is available and what might be best for your home. A termite control specialist can help you determine what treatment will work best.

Determining the Type of Termite

A termite control specialist will first need to identify what type of termite infestation you have, either Drywood or Subterranean. Below you will find information describing these breeds and what types of treatment might work.

Drywood Termite Treatment

Though Drywood Termites are not the most common termite species found it Arizona, it can be very destructive. This termite species is able to enter your home through cracks around window or door frames. It can crawl in under roof shingles or through attic vents. Once it makes it’s home in your home the Drywood Termite can cause extensive structural damage. Drywood Termite treatment is applied directly onto wood or injected into it. This can be the most effective way to control this species.

Treatment of Subterranean Termites

Subterranean Termites are the most common species of termite found in Arizona. They live in underground colonies. They are able to dig tunnels called “mud tubes” that help them burrow into your home.  Since they are protected by ground cover they can do large amounts of destruction without being seen. This species is even capable of collapsing entire structures. To treat this species of termite, pest control specialists will often place a liquid bait at the entry and infestation points throughout your home. Termites will ingest the bait and then take it back to the colony.
